🙌 Missional Moment
“I’ll Fight” – The Determined Spirit of William Booth
One of the most famous statements attributed to Salvation Army founder William Booth comes from his powerful declaration, often called I’ll Fight. Near the end of his life, when age and illness had weakened his body but not his resolve, Booth proclaimed:
“While women weep, as they do now, I’ll fight. While little children go hungry, as they do now, I’ll fight. While men go to prison, in and out, in and out, as they do now, I’ll fight. While there is a poor lost girl upon the streets, while there remains one dark soul without the light of God, I’ll fight—I’ll fight to the very end!”
These words captured the heart of The Salvation Army’s mission. Booth understood that ministry was never meant to be comfortable or convenient. It was a calling to enter the struggles of others with the love of Christ, bringing hope to the lost, care to the suffering, and the message of salvation to all who would hear. His commitment was not based on circumstances but on a conviction that every person mattered to God.
Today, that same spirit continues in The Salvation Army. Every meal served, every family assisted, every child encouraged, every person welcomed into worship, and every act of compassionate service is a continuation of the fight Booth described. As we serve through our Corps and Kroc Center ministries, may we remember that our mission is not finished. There are still people who need the love of Christ, and by God’s grace, we too can say, “I’ll fight to the very end.”
✝️ Note from the Pastor
Staying in the Fight
Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:11–16
In 1 Timothy 6:11–16, the Apostle Paul gives Timothy a powerful charge to remain faithful in the midst of spiritual conflict. He instructs him to flee from ungodliness and instead pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Paul then calls him to “fight the good fight of faith” and to take hold of the eternal life to which he has been called. This was not merely a challenge for Timothy but a call for every believer to remain steadfast in following Christ, regardless of the opposition, distractions, or difficulties that may arise.
The Christian life is not a sprint but a lifelong journey of faithfulness. There are seasons when the battle feels intense, when discouragement threatens to weaken our resolve, and when the pressures of life tempt us to give up. Yet Paul reminds us that our strength is found not in ourselves but in the Lord who has called us. The One who is “the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords” is faithful to sustain His people. Because Christ remains victorious, we can continue pressing forward with confidence, knowing that our labor in Him is never in vain.
As we walk through this week, let us recommit ourselves to staying in the fight. Let us pursue Christ with renewed determination, hold firmly to His promises, and refuse to grow weary in doing good. Whatever challenge you may be facing today, remember that God has not called you to quit but to remain faithful. Keep your eyes on Jesus, trust in His strength, and continue fighting the good fight of faith until the day we stand before Him in victory.
