First 5 – Week of March 24, 2025

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Brookside Elementary is celebrating March is Reading Month, and they’ve invited us to participate as guest readers in their classrooms. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with the students we’ve met through FAME or will meet during swim lessons.

Please note that this is a volunteer role and should not be done while clocked in. Exempt employees may participate as time allows.

If you’re interested in being a guest reader, please follow these steps:

  1. Contact Colleen Grulke, the reading specialist at Brookside Elementary, at GrulkeC@grps.org to express your interest.
  2. Access the Google Spreadsheet using this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fGoWik5DL5Ugj0XKfrOhyEDToXSM7HxO6c7eavNdRa0/edit?usp=sharing
  3. Find a teacher’s name highlighted in yellow and write your name next to it. Note that there are different tabs at the bottom for each week of March.
  4. Show up to Brookside Elementary at the scheduled time. You can bring your own book or use one from the school’s office.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Colleen Grulke directly at GrulkeC@grps.org.

Let’s show our support for Brookside Elementary and help foster a love for reading in their students. Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a positive impact in our community during your personal time!

SPRING BREAK POOL ATTENDANTS: We are about a month out from Spring break! Time flies!  As everyone knows, the Kroc Center ramps things up a bit around the building for Spring Break. As a result, aquatics could use some help with our Pool Attendant shifts. Please ask your staff if they would be willing to help. You do not need experience in aquatics to work these shifts. Most shifts are about 2.5 hours long and during the day during the week. This is essentially a customer service position. Staff will be helping with lifejacket fittings, rule enforcement, slide operation, and pool counts. TRAINING IS REQUIRED and will take place April 4 from 1:30–2pm.

If you have staff interested in helping, please let James or Melissa know so they can get them the correct job codes in Sling and ADP. Shifts are up in Sling right now from April 7-11. Any help, even a shift would be greatly appreciated!

SPRING BREAK AVAILABILITY: Spring Break (April 7–11) is quickly approaching! Our drop-in hours will be modified for the week of Spring Break in order to accommodate our community and provide a fun and safe environment for families! If you have not turned in your availability to your supervisor, please do so ASAP.

BINGO CHALLENGE: Thank you to all the employees who participated in the employee bingo challenge! It’s been fantastic to see so many of you out on the fitness floor and throughout the Kroc, discovering all the amazing things our facility has to offer. If you completed your bingo card, be sure to check your email for a message from Margarita asking for your t-shirt size. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue exploring the Kroc and prioritizing our fitness goals. Keep up the great work, everyone!

CAMP KROC EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT: Great news! We are offering a 50% discount on summer camp for the children of our staff, bringing the cost down to $97.50 per child per week. If you’d like to take advantage of this opportunity, simply let Alyson Rodriguez know via email or in person, and she will add the discount to your account. Don’t miss out on this chance to give your children an unforgettable summer camp experience at a reduced cost!

Each week, members of the Kroc Center and Kroc Church submit a number of requests for prayer. We welcome these from everyone in our community, and encourage all our Kroc Krew to lift up these requests in your own way. Don’t forget that you are always welcome to attend devotions on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 am in the Administration Foyer; if you have a prayer request to share, you can post it on the board in the lobby, use the online form, or contact a member of the Kroc Church team.

  • Prayers for health for all our staff and families!

Each week, we feature a “Note from the Pastor” and Bible verse from Captain Jack Huffman and the Kroc Church team. If you ever want to hear more about these topics, join us for Kroc Church Sunday mornings at 10am.

Acts 2:42-47 – The Early Church

As I think about the early Church and what it meant, I am humbled by the thought of the zeal that those who followed Christ and the way had for seeking a relationship with Jesus and seeking His Word. Those in the early Church were considered outcasts, individuals who were in direct opposition to the teaching of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Those who followed Christ and His teachings would regularly meet in their homes to avoid persecution.

Today, we are privileged in the USA to meet openly and gather in large, beautiful buildings to learn and grow together without the fear of persecution. We can openly profess our faith and tell others about what Jesus means to us without concern of being imprisoned or even stoned to death because of our faith. If this is true for us, then why are we so opposed to taking advantage of meeting together and enjoying the freedom that we have to openly express our faith?

Even when faced with persecution, those of the way made a way to meet and did everything in their power to chase after Jesus and share their faith with one another. I encourage us all today that we too should have the same zeal and deep desire to continue meeting together as the early Church did. May our Church today be like the early so we can know the promise realized in Acts 2:47b “ And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved”
