✝️ Note from the Pastor

John 10:1–13 – We Are Your Shepherds!

John 10:1–13 paints a beautiful picture of Jesus Christ as our shepherd and we as His sheep. John uses the metaphor of the shepherd and the sheep to tell a story of how much the shepherd cares for His sheep and how much the sheep not only trust and rely upon Him, but how well they know Him. This story is a wonderful reminder of how we today are still under the care of the great shepherd Jesus Christ, and He is still in fact watching over and protecting His flock.

In John’s parable, he tells of the robber who has only come in among the sheep by means of unauthorized entry into the fold. The sheep do not recognize him because he is not the shepherd. They do not listen to his voice. Because he is a robber whose only goal is to rob, steal, kill, and destroy. In the Church today there are many who enter the fold undetected and only have in mind wicked things. However, because the sheep do not recognize him, they turn away and back to the shepherd for protection.

In John’s parable, the hired hand flees when the wolf comes in among the sheep, leaving the sheep alone and defenseless. However, the shepherd never leaves His sheep alone and defenseless. In fact, the shepherd will lay His life down for His sheep. The good shepherd knows His sheep and they know His voice—they trust in Him and will follow Him.

Today, know that we are your shepherds and we will guard you and watch over you as your pastors. We will defend you and protect you from the wolves and help you also to learn to stand on your own, trusting in the Lord—the greatest shepherd of all.
