🙌 Missional Moment
Lent has long been observed by the Christian Church as a forty-day period of reflection leading up to Easter. While The Salvation Army historically placed less formal emphasis on the church calendar, it has consistently encouraged practices like repentance, prayer, self-denial, and practical service—values that closely align with the purpose of Lent.
Over time, many Salvationists have found Lent to be a helpful season to refocus on Christ’s sacrifice and the Army’s mission. The movement’s founders, William and Catherine Booth, stressed that true faith should always result in both personal holiness and active compassion for others.
Today, Salvation Army communities often use Lent as a simple opportunity to pause, reflect, and serve intentionally. It remains a meaningful way to prepare hearts for Easter while staying grounded in the Army’s ongoing commitment to share the gospel and meet human needs.
✝️ Note from the Pastor
Ephesians 3:17–19
Greetings Kroc Family,
In the life of a Christian, giving God praise has become one thing that is often reserved for Sunday mornings or when we overcome an obstacle in our lives that has been plaguing us for an extended period of time. There is no doubt that these forms of praise are expected and honored by God, but what about all of the other times in our lives when we either forget to praise or just don’t praise at all?
Giving God praise is an act of worship that should be expressed in our everyday lives for both the good and the bad, for the wins and for the losses, for the good times and the hard times. Praise is not just a hands-in-the-air experience on Sunday morning during worship service or even praising God when He gives you a victory in your life. Praise is for every moment that God sees fit to work all things out in your life for His purpose.
The scriptures encourage us in Philippians 4:4 with these words: “Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!” We are also reminded in Ecclesiastes 7:14, “When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other.” So the next time you are facing experiences—either good or bad—don’t forget to give God the praise, because it is in and through Him that all we face in life comes from.
