🙌 Missional Moment

The Salvation Army has used a military-style structure since its early years to bring order, clarity, and shared purpose to a growing movement. Under William Booth’s leadership, ranks such as Lieutenant, Captain, Major, and Colonel were introduced not to highlight status, but to strengthen mission efforts and support a unified commitment to sharing the Gospel. This structure reflected The Salvation Army’s calling to be a faithful force against sin and injustice, grounded in the belief that every person needs the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

These ranks were created to support accountability, leadership development, and effective ministry. Salvation Army officers are commissioned as ministers of the Gospel, called to care for people, preach holiness, and lead both spiritual and practical ministry. The structure helped ensure that wherever the Army served, the mission remained clear and consistent: proclaim the good news of Jesus, care for those in need, and invite people into a life transformed by the Holy Spirit.

Today, the officer ranking system still serves as a visible reminder of our shared calling. It points not to authority for its own sake, but to a life devoted to serving God and others. Each rank carries a deeper responsibility to lead with humility, serve with discipline, and advance Christ’s mission with steadfast faithfulness.

✝️ Note from the Pastor

Eternally Separated

1 Thessalonians 5:1–3; 2 Thessalonians 1:8–9

In these passages, the Apostle Paul reminds the church that Christ’s return is certain and will come suddenly, like a thief in the night. He also speaks plainly about the eternal consequence for those who do not know God or obey the Gospel: separation from His presence. This is not written simply to alarm us, but to awaken us. It is a call to live with readiness and to remember the eternal weight of the choices we make.

Paul’s warning shows us both the seriousness of sin and the urgency of God’s grace. Throughout Scripture, we see that separation from God is never His desire. From the beginning, God has pursued His people with mercy and redemption. Through Jesus Christ, He has made a way for all to be saved. Yet in His love, He also gives us the freedom to respond—to receive His grace or turn away from it.

This week, let us reflect on the urgency of the Gospel, not only for our own lives, but for the people around us. Eternal separation is real, but so is the gift of salvation. May we live surrendered to Christ, turn away from sin, and share His hope with others. Today is another opportunity to choose life, walk in the light, and help others encounter the grace of God that keeps us forever in His presence.
