🙌 Missional Moment

Following God’s Call—The Salvation Army Move Cycle

One of the unique traditions of The Salvation Army is the annual appointment, or “move,” of officers. Since the Army’s earliest days under William and Catherine Booth, officers have embraced the conviction that their ministry is not determined by geography but by God’s calling through the mission of The Salvation Army. Rather than remaining in one location indefinitely, officers covenant to serve wherever they are appointed, trusting that God is already preparing the next field of ministry. This practice has enabled The Salvation Army to respond to changing community needs, strengthen struggling corps, plant new ministries, and ensure that the gospel continues to be proclaimed wherever people need Christ’s hope.

While transitions can be bittersweet for officers, congregations, and communities alike, the annual move cycle reminds us that the mission is greater than any one individual. Every farewell creates an opportunity for new leadership, fresh vision, and renewed ministry while allowing officers to carry the relationships, lessons, and experiences from one appointment into the next. It reflects the words of Isaiah: “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8), a posture of faithful obedience that has characterized Salvation Army officership for more than 150 years.

As we pray for officers who are saying goodbye and for those beginning new appointments, let us also pray for the congregations welcoming them. May each transition remind us that Christ remains the Head of His Church, faithfully guiding His people from one season of ministry to the next, and may we all embrace God’s leading with willing hearts wherever He calls us to serve.

✝️ Note from the Pastor

Good Soil: Believe. Grow. Bear Fruit

This week we reflect on Jesus’ familiar parable of the sower found in Luke 8:4–15. While many people focus on the different types of soil, Jesus’ invitation is much more personal. He calls each of us to examine our own hearts. The seed—God’s Word—is always good and always powerful. The question is not whether God is speaking, but whether we are truly receiving what He is saying. Faith begins by believing in Christ, but it was never intended to stop there. Genuine faith continues to grow as we remain rooted in God’s Word, strengthened through prayer, worship, obedience, and fellowship with other believers.

Healthy disciples are not measured by perfection but by perseverance. Jesus teaches that deep roots enable us to withstand the trials, distractions, worries, and competing priorities that so often threaten to choke out our spiritual growth. As we cling to His Word and faithfully walk with Him day after day, He transforms our character and produces fruit that blesses others. A fruitful life reflects the love of Christ through service, encouragement, discipleship, and a growing desire to see others come to know Him.

As you go through this week, ask yourself three simple questions: Have I truly believed? How am I intentionally growing? Where is God calling me to bear fruit? My prayer is that each of us would become good soil—hearts that gladly receive God’s Word, lives that continue to grow in Christ, and disciples who faithfully invest in others for His Kingdom. May our homes, our workplaces, our church, and our community become more fruitful because we have chosen to hear, believe, and live out the Word of God.
