🙌 Missional Moment

Reflecting God’s Goodness Through The Salvation Army

From its earliest beginnings in 1865, The Salvation Army has sought to make God’s goodness visible through practical expressions of Christian love. William and Catherine Booth understood that proclaiming the name of Jesus meant more than preaching the Gospel; it required demonstrating His compassion to those suffering from poverty, hunger, addiction, and hopelessness. As the ministry expanded, this conviction became central to the Army’s mission of meeting human needs in Jesus’ name without discrimination.

In 1890, William Booth published In Darkest England and the Way Out, outlining an ambitious vision for addressing poverty, homelessness, unemployment, and social suffering. His proposals reflected the belief that God’s transforming grace should reach into every part of a person’s life. Through shelters, employment opportunities, food assistance, and spiritual care, The Salvation Army worked to reveal the goodness of God to people who had often been overlooked or forgotten by society.

Today, that same calling remains at the heart of our ministry at Kroc Church. Just as God promised Moses that His goodness would pass before him, we have the privilege of allowing others to experience God’s goodness through our words, actions, and service. Whether offering a meal, extending a helping hand, encouraging someone in recovery, or sharing the hope of Jesus Christ, we proclaim His name through lives shaped by His compassion. Our mission is not simply to tell the world that God is good, but to help the world experience His goodness through us.

✝️ Note from the Pastor

My Goodness, My Name
Exodus 33:15–20

In Exodus 33:15–20, Moses makes a bold request of God. Having experienced God’s faithfulness through the deliverance of Israel, Moses recognizes that without God’s presence, the journey ahead would be meaningless. He declares, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here” (Exodus 33:15). Moses then asks God to reveal His glory. In response, God promises to make all His goodness pass before Moses and proclaim His name, reminding him that His glory is inseparable from His goodness, mercy, and sovereign grace.

God’s response reveals a powerful truth: His goodness is not simply something He gives; it is an expression of who He is. When God proclaims His name, He reveals His character. His presence distinguishes His people, His mercy sustains them, and His goodness assures them that they never walk alone. Moses understood that the greatest blessing was not reaching the Promised Land but remaining in the presence of the One who had promised it.

As we continue our sermon series, Say My Name, may we remember that knowing God’s name means trusting His character and seeking His presence above everything else. When life becomes uncertain, when the road ahead seems difficult, or when we struggle to recognize God’s hand at work, we can rest in the assurance of His goodness. This week, let us seek more than God’s blessings; let us seek God Himself. May our lives reflect His goodness so that others might come to know the power, mercy, and love found in His name.
