First 5 – Week of October 30, 2017

Now that we are moving into November, our focus starts to shift toward the holidays and the New Year. As the weather changes, there will be more guests in our building for the first time, or who have not visited in several months. Please remember to be patient with questions, and display the radical hospitality that we want the Kroc Center to be known for!

Some upcoming events and programs you will start to see more about now that Monster Mash is over… make sure to share these with our guests:

  • Zumba Party, Sat. November 4, 10am-Noon. Ages 7+ (under 12 must be with an adult), FREE for members, $3 for non-members.
  • Holiday Cross Challenge, a fitness challenge from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Signups will begin at the Fitness Desk in early November.
  • Kroc Krew Thanksgiving Potluck (internal only), Thursday, November 16 at lunchtime.
  • Breakfast with Santa, Sat. December 2, 10am-Noon. Must register in advance – FREE for members, $5/person OR $20/family for non-members.

We are bringing back our Kroc Krew Red Kettle Challenge this year! The Salvation Army’s bell-ringing campaign starts on Friday, November 10. Departments will get the opportunity to win prizes, such as a pizza party, for volunteering on Sat., Nov. 18 and/or Sat., Dec. 9. More details will be coming soon.

Some parking reminders: Kroc Krew members may now use the south parking lot (on the side of the building) when working. But because our members and guests come first, please remember a couple of things to go along with this:

  • Please enter and exit the building for your shift via one of the card access entrances (back or side of the building). We want to project professionalism, and coming in through the front door can be seen as informal and unprofessional.
  • There will be large events where members and guests need to use the south lot; when this is the case, you MUST use the east lot and not the one in front of the building.  We will do our best to post these in the First 5 the week before the event.

Thanks to those who have already made a contribution to Casual for a Cause. If you want to wear jeans to work on Fridays, here’s what you can do:

  • Make a contribution at the Welcome Desk for the privilege of wearing jeans to work on Fridays (with a Kroc shirt)… $2 per week, $5 per month, or $50 for the whole year!
  • Coming soon… buy a special Casual for a Cause shirt (good to have more Kroc shirt options on Fridays) and proceeds will also go to World Services.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here’s an example from this week:

  • As the weather changes, guests in the gym are forgetting our policy that bags and jackets must be kept in lockers and not left on the gym floor. Devon Boone did a good job of reminding basketball players of this last Tuesday.
  • The Kroc events department received kudos from the Kent County Development staff in their flexibility handling the unusual fundraiser on Thursday night.

Here are some of the upcoming events at the Kroc Center (not including the outdoor fields):

  • MeridianCare: Classroom C/D, Monday 10:30am-1:00pm

Managers on Duty:

  • AM (Open to 10am): Paul Wood
  • Midday (10am-3pm): Crystal Truong
  • PM (3pm to close): Albert Montiel
  • Saturday, November 4 (12-7pm): Crystal Truong
  • Sunday, November 5 (1-5pm): Lisa VanDyk
