First 5 – Week of April 2, 2018

Spring Break is here!!!!!!!!!!! Below you will find some important reminders for what will be an amazing week here at the Kroc Center. Be sure to keep these things in mind as we deliver radical hospitality to thousands of people!

Staff Parking & Lunch: All Kroc Krew should park in the East (back) lot for the entire week, in the event that the main parking areas fill up. Employees who are working through the lunch hour may get lunch at the Crunchline before (11:30-11:55) or after (12:15-12:30) day camp kids.  This means you should not take lunch ‘to go,’ cut into the day camp line, or otherwise abuse this privilege.

Guideline enforcement: As always during Spring Break, many of our guests will be coming to the Kroc for the first time. One of the most frequent complaints we get is that guests feel our staff are “yelling” at them or their kids. Except where there is an immediate safety threat, try to remind guests of our guidelines in a gentle and polite way. One easy trick is to start with a request instead of a command.

Common example: Guests come out of the locker room dripping and barefoot.

Not as polite: “You need to dry off and put shoes on before you come out here.”

More polite: “I’d hate to see anyone slip on a wet floor. Could you please put your shoes back on and dry off a bit before you head out?”

In general, people will try to follow the rules, but don’t know them. If they don’t respond to the polite approach, you can always be more firm the second time.

Safety & Privacy Reminders:

  • “Code ADAM” over the radio is our keyword for a missing person. Talk to your supervisor about your department’s responsibility if this happens.
  • Taking pictures and videos at the Kroc Center is generally OK. However, if you notice a guest taking pictures of something unusual, i.e. other people’s kids, or who appear to be representing a media organization, please alert your supervisor.
  • Many parents are accustomed to taking young children of the opposite gender into the locker room with them. Our guideline is that this is only allowed for infants UNDER a year old. All others (dads with daughters, moms with sons) must use the family changing rooms.

Other random notes:

  • Concessions will be sold from 11am to 6pm daily outside the WPAC.
  • Help will be needed each day around 5pm to clean out the bounce houses.
  • The hub for Spring Break day camp is Fireside D/E.
  • Schedules for the week for the pool and gym are posted on the wall outside each area; they are also available on the Spring Break Guide.
  • In the mornings (8:30am-Noon), the game room will be in use for Child Watch (and possibly Day Camp Before Care) only. Families wishing to use the game room as a recreation option may only do so after noon.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples from this week:

  • “Koby is great with encouraging guests at the climbing wall. He was busy the whole afternoon and didn’t seem to break a sweat! A few of the parents shared with me how they appreciated the way he motivated the kids.”
  • “Wynter is just a rock star! She is always willing to help out in areas as needed so we don’t have any upset guests. She filled in at the rock wall (attendant was just a few minutes late) and in the gym while hosting a birthday party.”
  • “Kudos to Jessica Pollins for the mastery of Senior Friday. Nothing but smiles when they’re leaving. Especially after the movie this week… must have been an excellent choice!”
