FREE – Family Fun & Fitness! This week brings the return of our Family Fun & Fitness nights. Each evening starts with a family-friendly fitness class in the amphitheater, followed by open slip & slide time, face painting, and other fun on the outdoor campus. There will be three events (because of the 4th of July holiday): July 11, 18, and 25. See you there!
From Capt. Bill Brutto:
“We are pleased to announce the hire of Chris Reinsma as our new Program Developer. Chris has been a programming professional over 25 years. Chris’s past employment has included Spring Hill Camps, The Salvation Army Fulton Heights Corps (under the leadership of Majors Dan and Laura) and most recently, an organization many of us our familiar with, Kids Hope USA. Chris also has extensive background in evaluation, which will be critical to his new role. Chris is a graduate of Alma College and has received post graduate degrees at both Cornerstone University (Counseling) and Eastern Michigan University (Educational Psychology), Chris will take up his new role next Monday, July 9.
Please join me in praying for Chris and welcoming him to the GR Kroc.”
Camp Kroc Update: Camp Kroc continues to fill up fast, as well as some of our specialty camps! Don’t forget that we have half-day camps focusing on sports like soccer, other activities like cooking, and even a new “Pee-Wee” camp for 4 & 5 year-olds who aren’t ready for the full camp experience. If you have plans to register, or know others who may be interested, encourage them to sign up soon!
National Night Out: Our annual celebration on behalf of the Garfield Park Neighborhoods Association is only a month away. On Tuesday, August 7, we’re inviting everyone to the Kroc for more slip & slide fun, along with snacks and visits from the GR Police and Fire Departments. We also make space available at no charge for community organizations who want to share information or services with our neighborhood. If you have a connection with such a group, please have them email Jon Shaner at jon_shaner@usc.salvationarmy.org.
Kroc Center Music: After a great deal of confusion and discussion, it has been decided that we will return to having one specific music playlist for the Kroc Center. It includes 8+ hours of upbeat Christian music, ranging from pop to dance to gospel, and also including a few tracks in Spanish.
A few reminders:
- Like in most retail spaces, our music is designed to be in the background, and volume should be set accordingly. Music should be audible, but shouldn’t be the main thing people notice as they walk through any particular area. Those who wish to exercise to specific music are generally wearing their own headphones.
- Once it is going, the “Upbeat Christian” playlist is the only approved playlist for the Welcome Desk and Fitness Desk PCs. Group exercise classes, programs, Camp Kroc, and special events may still play their own music. Any requests for temporary exceptions must be approved by an officer or the general manager.
- The marketing department will review comments monthly and make changes as necessary.
- We must recognize that some guests will complain no matter what we play. One way you can respond to these people might be, “We know it’s impossible to pick music that everybody loves. So, we play a little bit of everything, as long as it is uplifting and fits our mission as a Christian organization. You’re welcome to write any specific requests on a comment card.”
Thanks to everyone for your cooperation!
Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples from this week:
- “Josue and Alexis covered the welcome desk and stayed late due to illness.”
- “Amy, Albert and Lewis were fantastic with an incident with the member on the fitness floor. Thank you guys!”
