First 5 – Week of November 5, 2018

Chicago Staff Band Concert: On Saturday, November 10, the Kroc Center will be hosting The Salvation Army’s Chicago Staff Band for a concert starting at 7pm. This is a nice family event, especially for anyone who is interested in brass music. Tickets are free; please talk to Capt. Bill if you would like some.

It’s Almost Kettle Season! The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign kicks off on Friday, November 9. The Kroc Center is responsible for managing all Kent County south of 28th Street, and it’s important that we get as many volunteers signed up to ring as possible. Please consider giving two hours to take a shift; it’s also a great activity for kids and families to help share more than gifts at Christmas. Online signup will be available soon!

Kroc Krew Thanksgiving: Our Thanksgiving pot luck will be here soon! Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 15th from 12–1 PM (we’ll also have food available in the evening for those who work at night). Turkey, mashed potatoes, and rolls will be provided. Each department will be in charge of different sides. Your assignments will be sent out soon!

Big Thanks to all staff who worked on Saturday for the Molina HOPE Coat Drive. The organizers were absolutely thrilled with the hospitality provided by the Kroc Krew, plus the folks at Emergency Disaster Services, who offered a place to store and sort coats when they came in. Giving away 1,500 coats is definitely in line with The Salvation Army’s promise of Doing the Most Good!

PS: Don’t forget to set your clocks BACK one hour Saturday night, November 3. You can praise the Lord when you wake up Sunday morning feeling an hour more rested!

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples from this week:

  • Albert Montiel greeted all members and guests with water, juice, and snacks in the lobby for his pop-up hospitality table. Thanks for sharing information about the Kroc Church with everyone coming in!
  • Meridian was really appreciative of the hospitality and organization we provided for their event to make it a success. They said they will be in contact within the next month to plan events for 2019!
  • Eddie Acker – Responding to pool maintenance issue on Sunday afternoon
  • Christine Etter & Patrice Franks – Good work and decision making to get pool open
  • Wynter Gardner – good communication with birthday party regarding pool
  • Bernard Colton, who filled in for the remainder of the day in the gym after a mixup on shift coverage.
