First 5 – Week of October 2, 2017

Want to be on TV and support The Salvation Army? This Monday morning (October 2), WOOD TV8 will be featuring The Salvation Army during its Daybreak broadcast from the studio at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. All Kroc Krew members and families are invited to come check out the live newscast from 5:30-7:00am. Free coffee and donuts will be available.

The Kroc Center will be replacing its four Star Trac ellipticals in the coming weeks, and we want to offer them to Kroc Krew members before the general public. They are $500 each, first-come, first-served. We will help load it for you, but you must arrange to get it home. Please contact Brent Wilcoxson if interested.

Now that it is officially fall (although it still doesn’t really feel like it), we are losing daylight quickly. The outdoor campus closes at dusk (which will continue to come sooner), and we are starting to close things like the outdoor basketball courts earlier. Please gently remind guests who linger after dusk that they need to find somewhere else to hang out.

We’re less than a month away from one of our biggest events of the year!

We are once again asking departments to operate a ‘trunk’ at this year’s Monster Mash on Friday, October 27. We had a great time with this the past few years, and want to continue the fun this year. The department with the most creative ‘trunk’ (as voted on by the Employee Appreciation Task-force) will receive a pizza party for their staff.

A few details:
– The event is 5:00 – 7:00PM. Set up will begin at 4:30PM.
– The Kroc Center will provide the candy.
– It doesn’t have to be a trunk! Last year we had various themes such as Cinderella’s Castle, Retro Fitness with Richard Simmons, and Ice Cream Shoppe!
– We need to know by Friday, October 6 if your department will be participating, how many parking spots are needed, and if electricity will be needed. Please RSVP to Bram Roberts.
– If you are looking for art supplies you are welcome to consult with Megan Lougheed, however please do not take any art supplies from the art room without asking.

We’re getting going on year two of Casual for a Cause! Last year, the Kroc was able to triple its fundraising for The Salvation Army World Services, and 10% of that came from your contributions. Here’s what you can do:

  • Make a contribution at the Welcome Desk for the privilege of wearing jeans to work on Fridays (with a Kroc shirt)… $2 per week, $5 per month, or $50 for the whole year!
  • Coming soon… buy a special Casual for a Cause shirt (good to have more Kroc shirt options on Fridays) and proceeds will also go to World Services.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here’s an example from this week:

Saturday, 9/23 was a very busy afternoon — the entire Kroc Krew was commended for staying on top of things with the higher-than-usual traffic levels! No guest issues were reported that day.
