Salvation Army Week: This week is National Salvation Army Week! The observance was first declared by President Eisenhower in 1954 in recognition of the Army’s work throughout the United States. Throughout the country, we will be promoting a common message:
The Salvation Army is…
- Passionate
- Compassionate
- Brave
- Uplifting
- Trustworthy
It’s who we are. It’s who I am.
We hope you are proud to represent these traits here at the Kroc Center, and think about how you can live them out daily. A great way to show your pride is by sharing the social media posts you see this week.
It’s baseball season! We are excited about our new partnership with Flames baseball, a Christian, nonprofit club that runs programs around the Grand Rapids area. It would be great to have a strong turnout for the Summer 1 sessions starting on June 11:
- T-ball (ages 5-7), Mondays 5:30-6:30pm
- Baseball (ages 8-9), Mondays 6:30-7:30pm
Please help us out by sharing this information about our new collaboration with friends and family. Thanks!
Toddler Tuesday finale: Next week, May 22, is our last Toddler Tuesday of the school year. We’ll have a couple of extra activities, and our friends from National Heritage Academies will be here giving away some goodies.
Neighborhood Events: There are a couple of big events coming up in our neighborhood this weekend. First, on Saturday the 19th, Celebrate the Heights will be on Eastern Ave. in the Alger Heights Business District from 10am-2pm.
Then, on Sunday, the South Division Steering Committee will kick off its Area Specific Plan process with a huge party in Garfield Park from 12-6pm. This event will feature lots of free food and entertainment, and give residents a chance to share their thoughts about neighborhood redevelopment.
Finally, we’re entering an extremely busy few weeks with large school groups, all-night graduation parties, and more. Many of these guests will be visiting the Kroc Center for the first time, so please make sure to offer our top-notch radical hospitality!
Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples from this week:
- Since it was just Teacher Appreciation Week, we want to say a special thank you to Katelyn Sterle and Jill Rice for leading another great year of RJ’s After School Academy!
- “(Davon) Boone was great with explaining our outdoor basketball guidelines with guests. No issues reported! They also appreciated the water provided by facilities.”
- “Wynter (Gardner) to the rescue again! Wynter worked the birthday party and the rock wall, as the rock wall attendant did not show up for his shift.”
- Please send in more examples of radical hospitality!
