First 5 – Week of June 4, 2018

It’s June! This is a month of transitioning to summer schedules all over the Kroc Center. Please make sure to look over changes that will be coming to the pool schedule, game room, and more over the next few weeks, and remember to respond to guest questions or complaints with radical hospitality!

Outdoor Fitness Series: Everyone is welcome to bring their friends for our FREE Outdoor Fitness classes on Saturday mornings in June. All classes start at 9am and feature Total Body (June 9), Yoga (June 16 and 23), and Zumba (June 30). Ages 12+ please; kids 12-15 need a Teen Fit Permit to participate. See Ronnie Frelix with any questions.

New event! The Kroc Center will be participating in the World’s Largest Swim Lesson, held on the first day of summer (Thursday, June 21) starting at 10am. UnitedHealthcare is sponsoring the event, which will teach basic water safety skills to as many people as we can fit in the pool! Pre-registration is free, but required, and is available online at GrKrocCenter.org.

Story Time in the Park: Once again this summer, we are working with GVSU and other local organizations to support the “Story Time in the Park” program. This weekly event draws nearly 1,000 people to Garfield Park every Tuesday in June, July, and August. Each Tuesday, kids age 15 and under get to pick out a free book to take home with them, and then everyone gets a free cup of ice cream. It is a lot of fun!

The Kroc Center will be offering a complimentary day pass to each child who registers for the program, and we’ll take information about programs, events, etc. to share with families who attend. It’s a great time, and everyone is welcome to come!

Communications Focus Group: We are looking for some ‘kreative’ Kroc Krew members who are willing to help the Marketing and HR departments define and revise the ways we communicate with employees. Part-time and non-admin staff preferred! This commitment is expected to be no more than five hours total; please contact Jon Shaner if interested.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples from this week:

  • “Thanks to all who participated in rolling out the slip and slide Wednesday morning!”
  • “Thank you to Lydia Hoekwater for filling in as a lifeguard on such short notice.”
  • “Tony [Stornello] did a great job of assisting us with archery instruction this past week. In particular, the parents and kids were impressed with his positive attitude and hard work in very hot conditions! Our archery kids even made up a cheer for Tony.”
  • “We had a few members who told the Welcome Desk they appreciated Eddie [Acker] as he is always smiling and personable.”
  • “A few compliments for the one and only Jessica Pollins for helping a guest who was new to the senior book club. She went above and beyond to make sure the guest felt welcomed.”
