First 5 – Week of July 30, 2018

National Night Out: Our annual celebration on behalf of the Garfield Park Neighborhoods Association is just a week away. On Tuesday, August 7, we’re inviting everyone to the Kroc for more slip & slide fun, along with snacks and visits from the GR Police and Fire Departments. Invite your friends and neighbors!

The Fall Program Guide will be available starting this week, and registration for Fall 1 session will be open next Monday, August 6. This means that it’s a great time to grab a copy and memorize it (OK, maybe not actually memorize it, but please be familiar with the types of classes available and how to direct people to the right information!)

We are very excited about our campaign to provide fine arts programs for as little as $5 to Kroc Center members this fall; so, we are launching a parallel promotion during the month of August to help drum up some additional interest among non-members (and hopefully, encourage them to become members).

Here are the primary details:

– During the month of August, we will hold Five “Fine Art Fridays.” Given that Friday open swim tends to attract more day pass users, the promotion will be that each person who brings in a donation of new art supplies will receive 50% off their day pass (for tracking purposes, we will create a coupon for the Welcome Desk to scan upon entry).

– We plan to have a display in the lobby about the promotion — on Fridays, this will be where we collect the donated items, giving us an opportunity to talk to guests about the fall class discounts. We are also discussing the possibility of having simple art-related activities or demos available.

– This promotion will be advertised with a) a press release next week; b) flyers during National Night Out; and c) TV screens and social media ads.

Please watch for information to come out over the next week, at which point we encourage you to share with friends and neighbors.

The registration deadline for the Fall 2018 season of AYSO soccer at the Kroc Center is Sunday, August 5. There are programs for kids as young as 3-4 years old, going up to an age 12U division. Go to ayso1634.org for more information and to sign up.

From General Manager Bram Roberts: “By now you may have heard that our beloved Marcie Rower will be leaving her Program Assistant role at the Kroc Center at the end of next week. Marcie has worked as part of the Kroc Center team for over nine years and was one of the original members of the team!

I’m going to be very blunt for a second, this is a really big loss for all of us. Marcie has played an important role in the success of our operations and she will be greatly missed. While we hate to see her go, we are so grateful for her hard work and dedication to not only the program department, but to the entire Kroc Center. Marcie was gifted in the areas of administration and was critical to the successful operation of the program department. She was also a master of the red pen! Most importantly, Marcie’s heart for Jesus was always so evident and lived out in her daily work and care for her coworkers, our members and guests (even the most difficult ones!).

We would invite you to join us in praying for Marcie and wishing her well as she makes this transition. We will also have a short time of good-byes on Thursday at 3:00PM in the admin office if you are available to join us. Not that anyone needs more reason to be there, but we will also have cake.

Thanks in advance for your support of Marcie and the program department during this transition.”

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples from this week:

  • “Long overdue shout out to Amy Seif at the welcome desk. Amy always seems to go above and beyond for our members. She knows them by name and has their program tokens already printed out for them ahead of time. Our early morning members have made several comments about how good it is to see Amy in the morning and how much they appreciate the extra effort she puts in.”
