First 5 – Week of January 7, 2019

New Year’s Membership Specials: In addition to our usual $0 registration offer that continues through January, we are adding a brand-new promotion for membership next month! As part of our “Year of You” campaign, all new members can get six months of membership for the price of five when paying in advance. That means half a year of membership for a single adult would be $190, or a full year only $380!

Les Mills is here: Another big change that we can talk up to members is the addition of Les Mills fitness classes. Also, the Kroc Center is the ONLY fitness facility in the Grand Rapids area to be running a virtual Les Mills studio. This allows us to offer a wider variety of courses at new times — overall this month, we have DOUBLED the number of drop-in fitness classes on our schedule!

Winter Programs: The Winter 1 program session gets underway this week. Registration for Winter 2 will begin next week… don’t forget that Kroc Center members will be able to take basic swim lessons for as little as $5 per person when signing up before the early bird deadline!

GR Drive Basketball Clinics: If you know a boy or girl ages 7-14 who would like to participate in a free basketball clinic with the Grand Rapids Drive at the Kroc Center, the next dates will be Monday, February 11 and Monday, March 11 from 6-8pm. Registration is open to give Kroc Krew families a head start — the clinics won’t be promoted to the public for another week or two. NOTE: Because space is limited, please do NOT sign up kids who participated in the November clinic.

Think Before You Print! As a whole, we have been printing far more than our allotment of copies (especially color copies) on the two main printers in the admin copy room and membership office. This costs the Kroc hundreds of dollars each month. There are plenty of tools at our disposal to share information without using paper — please consider alternatives before you click the print button! And ALWAYS check to make sure you are printing in black & white, double-sided, unless absolutely necessary.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples from the past couple of weeks:

  • Aquatics staff was outstanding with a large number of people in the pool on Sunday the 30th.
  • Thanks to fancy footwork of Crystal Truong and the flexibility of Alicia Jackson and Amy Seif, the Welcome Desk was covered after a Krew member called in.
  • Victoria in fitness used her slow times to do a copious amount of cleaning.  She was super diligent in cleaning or checking on people.
  • Bernard Colton is what every gym needs. When starting the drop-in basketball session he lays down the guidelines with some humor. Then he prays out loud. If he does not pray, he asks one of the players to.  The players seem to appreciate it. I know I do!
  • Rock Wall attendant Devon Boone was very interactive with climbers. When challenged, he accepted and did all four routes!

Here are some of the upcoming events at the Kroc Center:

    • Wedgwood Youth Event: Saturday 1/12, 9am – 5pm, WPAC, Music Room, Green Room

Managers on Duty:

  • AM (Open to 10am): Paul Wood
  • Midday (10am-3pm): Crystal Truong
  • PM (3pm to close): Albert Montiel (Capt. Bill on Monday 1/7)
  • Saturday, January 12: Albert Montiel
  • Sunday, January 13: Mike Glupker

Job Openings: Apply online through The Salvation Army Central Territory’s Career Portal. Also, remember you will be rewarded with a free cookie coupon for everyone you refer for a job at the Kroc Center! The need for new staff is growing. Please refer anyone and everyone you can!
