First 5 – Week of June 14, 2021

CAMP KROC BEGINS: Welcome to summer! Camp Kroc starts today and continues through August 20. Every week is now essentially full, although camp administrators are attempting to add kids from the waitlist if ratios allow as they create camper groups. Note that day camp will be using the full Fireside Hall as their home base.

UPCOMING JULY CHANGES: We are in the process of finalizing plans for how Kroc Center guidelines, processes, and activities will change as most of the state’s COVID restrictions are dropped as of July 1. We will no longer enforce specific face covering and distancing requirements (except where mandated for specific programs like day camp), and do our best to make the Kroc feel more “normal.” Watch for more information about activity and service changes coming soon.

KROC KREW FACE COVERING GUIDELINES: Most of you are likely aware of the recent changes to the face covering policies made by our Divisional Headquarters. Employees who are fully vaccinated may choose not to wear a mask, but must show their vaccination record to Kristin Hoin. In the interest of customer service, we still encourage all employees to wear a face covering (or have one nearby) for situations when we interact with guests who may feel more at ease that way. Please be aware that the state order for employers that this policy is based on does not expire until October 14.

JOB OPENINGS: As we look forward to being able to offer more programs and services in the next few months, we are starting to ramp up hiring for various positions around the Kroc Center. You can always check out the iCIMS web portal to see a list of available jobs throughout the Central Territory of The Salvation Army. Currently available positions include: Fitness Attendant; Group Exercise Instructors; Art Instructor; Music Instructor; Operations Administrative Assistant; Senior Programming Assistant.

REMINDERS OF THE WEEK:

  • SAFETY: Code ADAM – As we head into the summer and day camp season, it’s important to remember how to respond and work as team in the event we are unable to locate a child.

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE: Service Recovery – How we respond when the member or guest’s expectations are not met. It may not always be our fault, but it is our problem.

OFFICER FAREWELL: As the Captains Brutto prepare to exit their appointments as of June 27, there will be several opportunities to say goodbye and show our appreciation for their leadership. All Kroc Krew members will be invited to an open house-style lunch on Thursday, June 24 from 12:30-1:30pm. You’re also welcome to attend the farewell worship service on Sunday, June 27 at 10am. More information will be available soon.

NEW TO THE KREW: Be sure to welcome our new (again) colleague… Anita Lee Bjerk, Fitness Instructor (rehire)

CORE VALUE OF THE WEEK: We value all people as children of God. The Kroc Center intentionally strives to reflect and embrace the diverse population we serve.

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK: Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.  For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.” – Matthew 7: 1-2 (NLT)

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some recent examples:

  • Congrats to the Aquatics team and manager Jessica Viau for CRUSHING their in-service with multiple outside consultants and THQ representatives in attendance!

  • As the Kentwood AYSO region finished their spring season, they expressed great thanks especially for Albert Montiel (and jokingly asked to take him back to their regular home fields with them this fall).

  • Jake Delosh was recognized for helping multiple families navigate the Teen Fit Permit process to safely use the fitness equipment.
