UPCOMING HOLIDAY HOURS: Please make note of upcoming schedule changes over the Christmas and New Year’s weeks — the entire Kroc Center will be closed on Friday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) and Saturday, December 25 (Christmas Day). We will be open 6AM-3PM on Friday, December 31 (early closing for New Year’s Eve) and closed on Saturday, January 1 (New Year’s Day). Please see the Drop-In Recreation Guide for details, as there are some holiday-related changes to the fitness and pool schedules.
CHRISTMAS REMEMBRANCE: Most employees should have received your yearly Christmas Remembrance in Friday’s paycheck. The Salvation Army calculates the amount based on years of service and then prorates for anyone working less than 30 hours per week. It will appear on your check as “REM”. HOLIDAY FESTIVITIES: The Kroc Center will celebrate Christmas with our staff in various ways during the month of December…
- This Wednesday, December 8, we will have cookies and hot cocoa available for employees throughout much of the day.
- Monday, December 20, we will close the building early at 6 PM in order to hold a Kroc Krew Christmas party. There will be food provided, along with a photo booth, games, and gifts. More details will be provided soon.
BRAM FAREWELL: Join us on Wednesday, December 15 as we have a farewell gathering for our beloved general manager, Bram Roberts. There will be open house-style food available from 3-5pm, along with a special presentation at 4pm featuring some fun games to honor the Grand Rapids Kroc Center’s first employee!

LIFEGUARD TRAINING: In light of our current lifeguard needs, and in recognition of the roughly 40 hours of training required for new hires, we are instituting a new program, effective immediately. In addition to covering the cost of lifeguard training, new lifeguards will be reimbursed for their training time. A one-time reimbursement of $400 will be provided after 90 days of employment. The next lifeguard training is scheduled December 17-19, so please refer anyone who may be interested to Jessica Viau.

- From Lisa VanDyk: “This week, I had both a member and the FedEx delivery person come up to the desk and personally tell me about the great customer service they have received and that our staff is always so kind. The FedEx driver actually walked out of the building and made it a point to walk back in to share that with me.”
- From Major Carol Huffman: “I had a member approach me and thank me for the Christmas lights and decorations. He said that with all the trouble this world can bring, the beautiful lights and trees bring such peace and joy.”
