First 5 – Week of January 24, 2022

CAMP KROC IS COMING! It’s still (very) cold outside, but the planning process for our Camp Kroc summer day camps is already humming along. Here are some things you should be aware of, as we have already started getting some questions:

  • The Summer Day Camp Guide will be published in early February. It will be in a format similar to how we have been printing the Program and Drop-in Rec Guides in order to provide us with flexibility in case COVID policies change.
  • Specialty Camps (half-day camps for sports, fine arts, etc.) will be returning this summer, and will have a separate similar-looking guide.
  • Registration for all camps will run through Club Automation (like the rest of our programs). Registration will be open by March 1 at the latest (hopefully sooner).
  • Positions are already posted for Day Camp Counselors – see ’employment news’ below for a link.
  • The Kroc Center will once again be hosting a Summer Camp Fair in partnership with the Grand Rapids Kids website on Saturday, April 23.

CLIMBING WALL: Great news! The holds have returned to the climbing wall. We won’t be opening the wall for members just yet, but this will help make the building feel more inviting, especially as we give tours to potential members. Kids will, however, be able to use the bouldering wall once the mats are in place.

$0 REGISTRATION MEMBERSHIP PROMOTION: Do you know someone looking to start their wellness journey in 2022? We’re helping to make things simple by waiving the registration fee on all NEW memberships for a limited time. That’s up to a $50 value! And, there’s never a long-term contract at the Kroc, so it’s easier than ever to Get Into It. See the Welcome Desk or GrKrocCenter.org for more details and to sign up.

RESTORING HEALTH: The Restoring Health program is a partnership with The Hispanic Center and the Grand Rapids African American Health Institute to enroll up to 30 older adults at a time in an innovative 14-week holistic wellness journey. You’ll start to see the program and its participants around the building this week, especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am-1:00pm in the WPAC and Music Room. If you have any questions about the program, please see Chris Reinsma.

REMINDERS OF THE WEEK: Here are some of the topics you can expect to be covered at daily morning and afternoon huddle meetings…

    • CUSTOMER SERVICE FOCUS: Touchpoint mapping & common purpose
    • EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: Emergency Grab Bag!
    • CORE VALUE: We value a Kroc Krew that is committed, caring and engaged. The Kroc Center’s employees and volunteers consistently demonstrate radical hospitality and a desire for continual improvement.

NEW TO THE KREW: Be sure to welcome our new and returning colleagues… Rosie Leon, Welcome Desk Attendant; Karine Jamet, Fitness Instructor; Dafne Enriquez Martinez, Lifeguard

OPEN POSITIONS: Visit the Central Territory’s ADP Recruitment system for all job postings and to submit applications online. We appreciate you sharing opportunities with friends and family! Current openings include: Lifeguard; Welcome Desk Lead; Group Exercise Instructor; Day Camp Counselor; General Manager.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING: In light of our current lifeguard needs, and in recognition of the roughly 40 hours of training required for new hires, we are instituting a new program, effective immediately. In addition to covering the cost of lifeguard training, new lifeguards will be reimbursed for their training time. A one-time reimbursement of $400 will be provided after 90 days of employment. Please refer anyone who may be interested to Jessica Viau.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples observed this week:

  • “Jessica Viau was tending business in her pool office. A couple wandered to the pool door wanting to see the pool area. She invited them into her office to look through the picture window. As they looked through the window, Jessica proceeded to explain the pool depths and area uses, as well as costs. The couple seemed to be very pleased with the info…then Jessica proceeded to show them how to register and reserve a spot using their phone.”
  • From Major Carol: “CONGRATULATIONS to our amazing aquatics team! The review team from Councilman-Hunsaker management program was here at the Kroc to review our aquatics functions. They reported that our aquatics team showed they were very confident in all skills, showed proficiency in all tested skills, and serve with excellence as a ‘rescue-ready’ team! Great job, aquatics staff! You are appreciated!”

Here are some of the upcoming events and groups at the Kroc Center:
