First 5 – Week of March 21, 2022

SPRING BREAK:  Spring Break is just a couple weeks away (April 4–8)! We recently sent a survey to our members and most families reported they prefer to visit in the afternoon or evening, with the pool and climbing wall being the top-rated areas. So, on our Spring Break schedule, you’ll find:

  • Three nights of family swim, plus additional zero-depth times for our youngest members
  • Daily open climbing on the rock wall (no registration required)
  • Added family art and fitness classes, including a special Family Drum Fit on Thursday
  • Open gymnasium time with family games like nine-square, floor curling, and the Lu interactive playground

You can check out the full schedule at the Welcome Desk or online at GrKrocCenter.org.

OUTDOOR CAMPUS: Spring is finally here! We can expect more use of the outdoor campus as weather continues to get warmer. As always, please be mindful to help care for the outdoor areas as you are out and about — keeping our campus clean and safe is everyone’s responsibility!

READING MONTH:  March is National Reading Month! To celebrate, Kevin will be passing out children’s books and bookmarks every Thursday from 5–7 PM.  Look for his display of books just outside Child Watch.

CAMP KROC:  Registration is now open! Check it out online at GrKrocCenter.org. All camp registrations will run through Club Automation (like the rest of our programs). Below are some additional things you should be aware of, as we have already started getting some questions:

  • Summer Day Camp Guide is available at the Welcome Desk and online at GrKrocCenter.org.
  • Specialty Camps (half-day camps for specific activities) will be returning this summer, and have a separate similar-looking guide. That guide is also available at the Welcome Desk.
  • Camp scholarship applications are now available online and at the Welcome Desk. The deadline to apply for a camp scholarship is May 1.
  • Positions are already posted for Day Camp Counselors – see ’employment news’ below for a link.
  • The Kroc Center will once again be hosting a Summer Camp Fair in partnership with the Grand Rapids Kids website on Saturday, April 23.

REMINDERS OF THE WEEK: Here are some of the topics you can expect to be covered at daily morning and afternoon huddle meetings…

    • CUSTOMER SERVICE FOCUS: Common Purpose and Touchpoint Mapping
    • EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: Outdoor Campus Safety
    • CORE VALUE: We value all people as children of God. The Kroc Center intentionally strives to reflect and embrace the diverse population we serve.
    • KROC HAIKU: It’s a piece of CAKE / “Children All Kick Everything” / A-Y-S-O fun!

OPEN POSITIONS: Visit the Central Territory’s ADP Recruitment system for all job postings and to submit applications online. We appreciate you sharing opportunities with friends and family! Current openings include: Welcome Desk Supervisor; Welcome Desk Lead; Group Exercise Instructor; Lifeguard; Day Camp Counselor; General Manager; Human Resources Generalist.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples observed recently:

  • The Aquatics & Fitness teams had a quick response to a potential medical emergency earlier this week.

  • Eddie & Paul noticed some young kids loitering on the outdoor campus and gave them a basketball that had been abandoned in the maintenance building as a way to help channel their energy more productively.

Here are some of the upcoming events and groups at the Kroc Center:

  • U-PREP program: Tuesday & Thursday mornings, 8:30-10:30am, Fireside & Gymnasium
  • Restoring Health: Tuesday & Thursday, 8:00am-1:00pm, WPAC & Music Room
  • FAME: Tuesday 12:45-2:45pm, Fireside/Art Room/WPAC
  • Kroc Advisory Council: Wednesday, 11am-2pm, Fireside C

Be sure to wish a Happy Birthday to our Kroc Krew colleagues:

  • Lily Mattson – Child Watch/Welcome Desk: 3/24
  • Willow Mattson – Child Watch: 3/24
