🙌 Missional Moment

From its earliest days on the streets of East London in 1865, The Salvation Army recognized that preaching the gospel and meeting human need must go hand in hand. William and Catherine Booth saw the realities of poverty, hunger, and homelessness surrounding them and responded not only with words of hope but with practical care. Soup kitchens, shelters, and outreach to the most vulnerable quickly became hallmarks of the Army’s mission.

As the movement grew and spread across the United States, Salvation Army social services expanded to meet emerging community needs. Food pantries, emergency assistance, disaster relief, and case management ministries developed as intentional expressions of Christian compassion. Through wars, economic downturns, and natural disasters, the Army has consistently stood in the gap—offering both immediate relief and a pathway toward stability and dignity.

Today, that same legacy continues in corps and community centers across the country. Each grocery box distributed, each family assisted with rent, and each neighbor welcomed for support represents more than a service—it reflects a long-standing commitment to meet human need in Christ’s name without discrimination. We are all invited to carry this mission forward through prayer, service, and faithful partnership.

✝️ Note from the Pastor

In Matthew 26:6–13, we see Mary pour out costly perfume on Jesus—an act of complete devotion that others in the room did not fully understand. During this Lenten season, we are reminded that her offering, like the widow’s mites, reflected a heart fully surrendered to the Lord. Both women recognized that nothing on earth holds greater value than giving our whole lives to Christ.

Mary’s act challenges us to examine where our trust truly rests. Scripture reminds us that we cannot serve both God and money, and that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. Faith often requires stepping forward when the outcome is unclear, trusting that God is faithful to sustain and provide for those who place their confidence in Him.

This week, consider: when was the last time you stepped out in faith? Whether through your time, resources, or obedience, the Lord is calling us to deeper surrender. As we move closer to Resurrection Sunday, may we live with the same bold trust as Mary—holding nothing back and believing that the One who calls us is faithful to complete His work in us.
