🙌 Missional Moment
Harbor Light—A Beacon of Hope
In 1911, The Salvation Army opened one of its first Harbor Light centers to minister to men experiencing homelessness, addiction, unemployment, and deep personal hardship. Named after the guiding lights that safely lead ships through dangerous waters, Harbor Light ministries became places where individuals could find shelter, compassionate care, practical assistance, and, most importantly, the hope found in Jesus Christ. What began as a ministry to those who had reached life’s lowest points has grown into a worldwide network of residential rehabilitation centers, emergency shelters, and recovery programs.
Harbor Light has always reflected the Salvation Army’s conviction that no one is beyond God’s redeeming grace. While meals, beds, counseling, and addiction recovery are essential services, the ministry has always gone beyond meeting physical needs by sharing the transforming power of the Gospel. Countless lives have been restored as individuals discovered forgiveness in Christ, freedom from addiction, renewed purpose, and the opportunity to rebuild relationships with their families and communities.
Today, Harbor Light ministries continue to embody William Booth’s vision of preaching the Gospel while meeting human needs in Christ’s name without discrimination. As we worship this week, let us remember that every act of kindness, every word of encouragement, and every opportunity to share Christ’s love can become a beacon of hope for someone navigating life’s storms. Like a harbor light guiding weary sailors safely home, may our lives point others to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
✝️ Note from the Pastor
Dig His Word
In Luke 8:4–15, Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower, reminding us that the power of God’s Word never changes—the difference lies in the condition of the heart that receives it. Some hear but quickly forget, others receive the message with joy only to fall away when difficulties arise, and still others allow life’s worries and distractions to choke out spiritual growth. Yet Jesus points us to the good soil: hearts that hear His Word, hold tightly to it, persevere through every season, and produce a harvest that brings glory to God. As followers of Christ, we are invited not simply to hear the Word but to allow it to take deep root within us.
God’s Word was never intended to be skimmed over or treated as an occasional source of encouragement. It is meant to be dug into, treasured, and lived out each day. Just as a plant develops deep roots before it bears fruit, our spiritual lives mature as we consistently spend time in Scripture, prayer, worship, and obedience. The more deeply we dig into God’s truth, the more firmly we are anchored when trials come, and the more His Spirit transforms our character into the likeness of Christ.
This week, I encourage you to dig His Word. Set aside intentional time each day to read, reflect, and listen for what the Lord is speaking to your heart. Ask yourself: Am I simply hearing God’s Word, or am I allowing it to change me? As you dig deeper into Scripture, trust that God will strengthen your faith, deepen your roots, and produce fruit through your life that blesses others and points them to Jesus Christ. May we become people who not only hear His Word but faithfully live it every day.
