🙌 Missional Moment
William Booth, a British Methodist preacher, along with his wife, Catherine Booth, founded The Salvation Army. Known for his relentless evangelistic zeal, Booth often spoke of the lengths he would go to in order to reach souls for Christ. He was willing to use innovative methods that may have seemed out of the norm to other churches, all for the sake of sharing the Gospel message of Christ.
One of his famous quotes is, “If I thought I could win one more soul to the Lord by walking on my head and playing the tambourine with my toes, I’d learn how!”
Today, we are still called to look for creative and meaningful ways to share God’s great grace and love with those who come into the Kroc. As we serve our community, let’s continue thinking about the out-of-the-norm, innovative ways we can point people to the Gospel message of Jesus.
✝️ Note from the Pastor
James 1:2–4 says, “Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.”
James begins his letter with a challenging call: to count it all joy in the face of trials. That’s not an easy instruction to follow. Finding joy during tough, difficult, and even life-altering hardships can feel nearly impossible. Many of us would admit that “joy” is not the first word that comes to mind when we are walking through seasons of pain.
This past year has been a reminder of how real and unexpected trials can be. Many of us have stood alongside others in their struggles, praying, encouraging, and offering counsel. But walking through hardship ourselves brings a different level of understanding. The truth is this: no one is exempt from troubles, trials, or tests, not even followers of Christ.
So, what makes the difference?
James gives us the answer. It is not about avoiding trials, but about how we face them and with whom we face them. We are not called to endure hardship alone, but to walk through it with Christ. He is our strength, our guide, and our constant presence.
James reminds us that the testing of our faith produces endurance. And endurance, when allowed to fully do its work, leads to spiritual maturity, making us complete and lacking nothing. What feels like pressure in the moment is part of God’s shaping process in our lives.
Trials are not wasted when they are placed in God’s hands. In Him, even our hardest seasons can produce growth and strength in our relationship with Christ. Let us not walk through hardship alone, but with Christ, trusting that He is at work in us, even now.
