First 5 – Week of June 8, 2021

CAMP KROC UPDATE: Our Camp Kroc summer day camps are almost completely full. There may be limited opportunity to add junior counselors (ages 13-17) or kids from waitlists as camper ages and ratios permit, but we will no longer be actively promoting camp registration. Day camp starts next Monday, June 14, and runs weekdays through August 20. Please see Kayla Welch or Patrice Franks with any camp-related questions, or if you are interested in helping out with check-in/check-out and other needs.

LOCATION CHANGES: As we begin preparing spaces for day camp, group exercise classes that have been in the Fireside Hall for the past few months will be moving. Starting this week, most live classes will take place in the Amphitheater or Gymnasium, and half of the gymnasium will be used as a staging area for equipment (bikes, weights, etc.) This means only half the space will now be available for Household Gym, as well as other schedule adjustments. Please be sure to pay close attention to the Drop-In Recreation Guide so we can help our members find their desired activites.

JOB OPENINGS: As we look forward to being able to offer more programs and services in the next few months, we are starting to ramp up hiring for various positions around the Kroc Center. You can always check out the iCIMS web portal to see a list of available jobs throughout the Central Territory of The Salvation Army. Currently available positions include: Group Exercise Instructors; Art Instructor; Music Instructor; Operations Administrative Assistant; Senior Programming Assistant.

AYSO REGISTRATION OPEN: After a season of combined soccer fun with the Kentwood region, the Kroc’s AYSO Region 1634 is planning to resume normal operations for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 membership year. Signups for the 6U through 12U age groups are now available on the league’s website, AYSO1634.org. Interested in helping out? We’re always looking for folks with a love of soccer to participate as coaches and referees. Please see Jon Shaner or Bram Roberts with any questions.

REMINDERS OF THE WEEK:

  • SAFETY: It’s often easy to forget about the important resources we encounter at the Kroc Center every day. For example, have you ever stopped to look at one of the many evacuation maps posted throughout the building? Each department has a location with an emergency binder — do you know where yours is, or where to find an incident report form?

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE: One of the first steps in providing great customer service is understanding who our customers are. We’ll discuss that concept this week with the help of a tool called the “customer compass.”

OFFICER FAREWELL: As the Captains Brutto prepare to exit their appointments as of June 27, there will be several opportunities to say goodbye and show our appreciation for their leadership. All Kroc Krew members will be invited to an open house-style lunch on Thursday, June 24 from 12:30-1:30pm. You’re also welcome to attend the farewell worship service on Sunday, June 27 at 10am. More information will be available soon.

CORE VALUE OF THE WEEK: We value a thriving community. The Kroc Center cultivates a sense of place that bonds people together and makes our whole neighborhood stronger.

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK: “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.” – 1 Chronicles 29:11 (NLT)
