First 5 – Week of May 13, 2019

Employee Parking Note: If you are working anytime after 3 PM this Thursday, May 16, you will need to use the East (back) parking lot. Special events on top of the already-busy schedule will put parking at a premium for our members and program users. Thank you for your cooperation.

National Salvation Army Week: Did you know that this is National Salvation Army Week? The observance was first declared by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954. This would be a great time to check out all the amazing work The Salvation Army does both here in the United States and around the world. A good place to start is the World Service Office… visit http://sawso.com/sawso/. Locally, the Kroc Center is helping with multiple fundraising and outreach events that our Kent County command is putting on this week. We hope you feel pride in working for an organization that is held in high esteem around the globe!

Brookside Spring Showcase: Our friends from Brookside Elementary will be at the Kroc Center this Thursday to share their talents in fine arts, music, and expression; part of this is what we have called the FAME program for 4th- and 5th-graders. There will be a performance that students have learned from Grand Rapids Ballet instructors, plus a big ‘bucket drumming’ finale. The show starts at 6pm, we hope you can stop by to support our students!

School Event Season is Here: From now until the end of May, we will have numerous school groups at the Kroc, both during the day and after-hours. Some things to keep in mind:

  • Many departments have additional staffing needs. Please see your supervisor or Heather Morrison if you are interested in working an all-night party.
  • The all-night graduation parties are kept a secret from the students. Do NOT share the names of any of the schools that will be attending.
  • Overnight events will disrupt the normal night cleaning crew, so we all need to pitch in and keep areas looking good.
  • Daytime school groups will cause some changes to pool and other rec schedules. We will be posting these for members as needed.

We appreciate the patience and teamwork of all our Kroc Krew during this busy time of year!

MOD Changes: As you should now be aware, due to the ever changing needs of the Kroc Center we have made a change to our Manager on Duty (MOD) scheduling and responsibilities. Beginning this month, managers, directors and other full-time Kroc staff are serving in the MOD capacity every weekday evening, as well as on weekends. This change is meant to give the facilities staff (mainly Albert and Paul) the freedom and additional time to accomplish their facility responsibilities. Your patience is appreciated as we work out any remaining kinks in the schedule; please see Bram Roberts or Captain Bill with any questions.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples from the past week:

  • “Heather stepped in to help Joselyn with the group at the Welcome Desk.”
  • “Ronnie, Victoria, and Dannielle did a great job of getting the WPAC ready for the Les Mills training.”
  • “The Clark family and rest of the Child Watch staff were doing a great job with the our youngest members.”
  • “Jacki went out of her way to extend grace to prospective scholarship recipient.”
  • “Welcome to Olivia, our newest art attendant! She was engaging young people very naturally.”
  • “Adonys was very inviting as the birthday party host. He made sure guests had on shirts and shoes and explained the guidelines with patience.”
