First 5 – Week of December 20, 2021

UPCOMING HOLIDAY HOURS: Please make note of upcoming schedule changes over the Christmas and New Year’s weeks — the entire Kroc Center will be closed on Friday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) and Saturday, December 25 (Christmas Day). We will be open 6AM-3PM on Friday, December 31 (early closing for New Year’s Eve) and closed on Saturday, January 1 (New Year’s Day). Please see the Drop-In Recreation Guide for details, as there are some holiday-related changes to the fitness and pool schedules.

HOLIDAY FESTIVITIES: On Monday, December 20, we will close the building early at 6 PM in order to hold a Kroc Krew Christmas party. There will be food provided, along with a photo booth, games, and gifts. Also, there will be another hot cocoa bar available throughout the day in the membership office on Wednesday, December 22.

NEW YEAR SCHEDULE CHANGES: We continue to do our best to expand the level of service we can provide our members with our current staffing amid a COVID pandemic that shows few signs of letting up. So, we are pleased to be able to make the following changes to our schedules starting Monday, January 3:

  • The Kroc Center will open at 5:30 AM Monday–Friday (currently 6:00 AM).
  • Child Watch service will be available on Saturday mornings, 9-11 AM.

These changes were emailed to members last week, and more information will be available in the Winter 1 Drop-In Recreation Guide.

WINTER PROGRAMS: As a reminder, the Winter 1 session program registration deadline is this Tuesday, December 21. The Winter 2 session guide will be available the first week of January (if not sooner) and open for registration on Monday, January 10.

REMINDERS OF THE WEEK: Here are some of the topics you can expect to be covered at daily morning and afternoon huddle meetings…

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE FOCUS: Key #2 – Relationships
  • SAFETY: Given the potential for more kids in the building during Christmas break, we will review Code ADAM procedures.
  • CORE VALUE: We value a Kroc Krew that is committed, caring and engaged. The Kroc Center’s employees and volunteers consistently demonstrate radical hospitality and a desire for continual improvement.

OPEN POSITIONS: Visit the Central Territory’s ADP Recruitment system for all job postings and to submit applications online. We appreciate you sharing opportunities with friends and family! Current openings include: Lifeguard; Welcome Desk Lead; Volleyball Instructor; Group Exercise Instructor; Fine Arts Instructor; Music Instructor; Recreation Program Manager; General Manager.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING: In light of our current lifeguard needs, and in recognition of the roughly 40 hours of training required for new hires, we are instituting a new program, effective immediately. In addition to covering the cost of lifeguard training, new lifeguards will be reimbursed for their training time. A one-time reimbursement of $400 will be provided after 90 days of employment. The next lifeguard training is scheduled this weekend, December 17-19, so please refer anyone who may be interested to Jessica Viau.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some recent examples:

  • Heidi Roberts jumped in at the last minute to teach a yoga class that was without an instructor.
  • Lily Walker improved a situation with a child who had to wait for a parent to use the hot tub by creating an impromptu scavenger hunt around the pool deck.
  • Lydia Hoekwater helped members navigate changes to the pool schedule due to the holidays and greened up some dots as well.
  • Eddie Acker was observed (and photographed) demonstrating to a member the function of several pieces of fitness equipment:

Here are some of the upcoming events and groups at the Kroc Center:
