First 5 – Week of April 25, 2022

NEW GENERAL MANAGER: We are extremely pleased to share with you that Luke Bronkema will be joining us in the role of General Manager. Luke holds a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from Wayne State University, and a B.A. in Education from Cornerstone University, where he also played on the basketball team. He comes to us having held several roles with increasing responsibility within the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids – Facilities Director, Sports Director, and most recently, Director of Operations at the David D. Hunting (downtown) location. Clearly, we believe this set of experiences will translate very well into the General Manager role here at the Kroc Center. While at the YMCA, Bronkema was responsible for multiple partnerships and programs that provided sports and physical education opportunities to children from low-income backgrounds. In addition, Luke spent three seasons as the head men’s basketball coach at Grand Rapids Community College, winning two regional Coach of the Year awards in the process. As a man of faith, Luke is excited to fully support the Christian mission of The Salvation Army.

Luke’s first day with us will be Monday, April 25; we will hold an informal welcome reception with bagels and snacks on Tuesday morning following our devotions at 9am in the admin office. Please join us in making Luke feel at home here at the Kroc!

PROGRAM SESSION REMINDERS:  Registration is now open for Summer 1 programs! Please note that aquatics has its own guide, separate from the other programs. Both guides can be found at the Welcome Desk and online at GrKrocCenter.org. Registration runs through Tuesday, May 31st.

CAMP KROC STAFF DISCOUNT:  We will again be offering a 50% staff discount for Camp Kroc this summer! In order to use this discount, you will need to email Kayla Welch with your full name (as it appears in Club Automation) as well as the children that will be using the discount. She will then apply the discount code to your account so you can register for camp, and the adjusted price should automatically appear at checkout. This discount will only apply to your immediate family members, i.e. your children and dependents as linked to your account in Club Automation. This discount will not be active until May 1st when scholarships are also awarded, so that all members have ample time to register for available camp space. Note that the discount does not apply to before/after care, junior counselors, or specialty camps.

KROC KREW GOOD NEWS: Kevin Chilton recently got engaged! His fiancé, Aaliyah Minor will also be working at the Kroc this summer as a Day Camp Counselor. Be sure to congratulate Kevin on this exciting news!
