First 5 – Week of November 21, 2022

$10 SWIM LESSONS: Thanks to grant funding from the American Red Cross and the USA Swimming Foundation, we are able to offer select Kroc Center members a session of Winter 1 swim lessons for only $10! We’ve automatically qualified all Kroc members who receive discounted membership rates for this program. They all recently received an email to let them know they qualified.  Important to note: This discount applies to all levels of swim lessons, but does not apply to other aquatics programming such as water exercise classes or the Pre-Competitive Swim Clinic.

THANKSGIVING: Thanks to our friends on the EAT Committee for organizing a great Thanksgiving meal for the staff! Just a reminder, the Kroc Center will be closed on Thursday to observe the holiday. We’ll be open normal hours on Friday. Don’t forget to help spread the word about our Turkey Burn Off event happening on Saturday. Details are below.

TURKEY BURN OFF:  Burn off those Thanksgiving calories with two hours of fitness on Saturday, November 26th from 9-11 AM! This event is free for members and non-members may purchase a day pass. Must be 16+ to participate, or have completed the Teen Fit Permit. Event details can be found here.

KROC REFRIGERATOR: Please check the Kroc Refrigerator (our member bulletin board just past the main check-in gate) for information on the Angel Tree program, which blesses thousands of families in Kent County each Christmas with toys, gift cards, and more. As in past years, you’ll be able to select tags, shop for children, and drop gifts back off at the Welcome Desk.

CHRISTMAS PARTY: Save the date for Saturday, December 10th at 5PM for our Kroc Krew Christmas Party — additional details to come.

OPEN POSITIONS: Visit the Central Territory’s ADP Recruitment system for all job postings and to submit applications online. We appreciate you sharing opportunities with friends and family! Current openings include: Welcome Desk Lead; Pool Supervisor; Group Exercise Instructor; Fitness Attendant; Personal Trainer; Art Instructor; Swim Instructor; Lifeguard.

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples observed recently:

  • Cori and Vicki in Aquatics noticed a regular member had left her purse in the open, and set it aside until she was done swimming so not to have it lost or stolen.
  • Albert received many compliments on his service to the Grand Rapids Symphony, and Eddie & Paul came in to help with setup.
  • Eddie came in on Sunday to address an issue with the heating system in the pool, AND received another shoutout for fixing Jill’s art cart.
  • Welcome Desk Lead Robin Owens has made a lot of personal connections with members in her short time here so far, as evidenced by the number of people who have asked about her changing shifts
  • A member on social media left us a message regarding the climbing wall, “My family had a blast and Mr. Sammie was amazing with the kids!”

Here are some of the upcoming events and groups at the Kroc Center:

  • UPrep Enrichment Classes: Tuesday/Thursday, 8:45-10:15am; Gym, Fireside, Art Room, Classroom C/D, Green Room, Kitchen
