First 5 – Week of February 6, 2023

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: Kevin Chilton, our Child Watch Lead will be setting up a resource table in the lobby this month to celebrate Black History Month. Kevin has researched materials and books for all ages so we can continue to educate ourselves, families, and the community about Black history and how equity and social justice can take place. Be sure to stop by his table every Monday and Wednesday this month!

WINTER 2 PROGRAMS: This is the last week to register for Winter 2 programs! The deadline to register is Tuesday, February 14th. Programs will begin on Monday, February 20th.  A copy of the program guide can be found at the Welcome desk or online here.

UPCOMING EAT EVENTS: The Employee Appreciation Taskforce (EAT) will be bringing back the Kroc Krew Chili/Soup Cook-Off on Thursday, February 23. Watch for more details coming soon!

STAFF PARKING: Just a reminder that all staff should be parking in the south parking lot, not the main lot in front of the building. This is especially important during our busy months when we want to ensure our main lot has plenty of parking for members.

EVENING SUPPORT STAFF: In an effort to maintain consistent customer service and support our teams during our peak season, we will have an officer, director, or manager on duty each weeknight from now until the end of February in order to help out with break coverage, membership tours, and general customer assistance. This is NOT meant to go back to the old “MOD schedule” – the evening facilities supervisor should still be considered the MOD and called for the most urgent situations. Below is this evening support schedule for this week.
Monday:  Luke
Tuesday: Jessica
Wednesday: Brent
Thursday: Lt. Jack
Friday: Brent

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples observed recently:

  • Kroc Center member and (briefly) swim instructor Doug Reardon, a news anchor at FOX 17, is leaving to take a new position at a TV station in Atlanta. He asked us to pass along a message to our Kroc Krew: “I really appreciate the kindness you all have shown over the years. [The Kroc] is one of the things Sabrina and I will miss most about GR. Please tell everyone we will miss them!”
  • Behind the scenes, the facilities team has been hard at work learning and adapting to changes and new processes within the Archibus management system, which handles preventative maintenance, repair requests, and much more.
  • Pool supervisor Cori VanderPloeg has been involved in several emergency situations over the past couple of weeks and handled them with amazing professionalism, and also covered a shift at the last-minute.
  • Alyson Rodriguez passes along thanks to the Welcome Desk team for their patience and support in managing the new (and very popular!) drop-in clay class and the processes involved.

Here are some of the upcoming events and groups at the Kroc Center:

  • FitKids 360: Wednesday, 5:00-8:00pm, WPAC, Music Room
  • UPrep Enrichment Classes: Tuesday/Thursday, 8:45-10:15am; Gym, Fireside, Art Room, Classroom C/D, Green Room, Kitchen
  • Girls on the Run Coaches Training: Saturday, 7am-3pm; Fireside, Music Room

Be sure to wish a Happy Birthday to our Kroc Krew colleagues:
