First 5 – Week of April 15, 2024

SPRING PROGRAMMING: Welcome to the Spring program session! New program and drop-in rec schedules take effect today. We’ll drop the Summer 1 program guide later this week for folks to browse, but registration for those programs won’t open until Monday the 29th.

GRPS SWIM LESSONS: Starting this week, there will be two classes of second-graders from GRPS elementary schools in the building each afternoon for swim lessons. This means that the pool will close for lap swim/river walking at 12pm instead of 1pm daily. This week features scholars from Buchanan and Burton Elementary Schools. There will be a lot of help needed both in the pool and in supervising kids in locker rooms; please see James Valentine or Jessica Viau if you have any questions.

EMPLOYEE REFERRAL PROGRAM: Now through the end of June, we are reinstating our employee referral bonus program — current Kroc Krew members can get $200 for referring someone new (assuming they are hired and work a minimum amount in their first 90 days). You must use the ADP portal to make the referral; please see Melissa Roemer if you have any questions.

HOUSING FORUM: On Wednesday, April 24th at 6:30pm, the Garfield Park Neighborhoods Association will be presenting a forum here at the Kroc Center to share information with our community about how the City and local nonprofits are working to address the massive need for quality housing in Grand Rapids. Partners from Dwelling Place and Housing Next will be among the presenters. You can find more information in their Facebook event.

CYCLE-DELIC ZUMBA GLOW PARTY: Don your best 80’s and 90’s fashion and join us for an awesome glow party workout that is part cycle and part Zumba! This event is next Friday, April 26 from 6:00-7:30pm. It is free for members and day pass users, but space is limited, so encourage people to sign up in advance!

OPEN POSITIONS: Visit the Central Territory’s ADP Recruitment system for all job postings and to submit applications online. We appreciate you sharing opportunities with friends and family! Current openings include: Fitness Lead (FT), Fitness Attendant, Lifeguard, Youth Ministry and Mission Specialist, Building Supervisor (PT), Welcome Desk Attendant, Child Watch Attendant, Summer Day Camp Counselor (FT), Summer Day Camp Counselor (PT).

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests!

  • Fitness intern Meaghan Williams has taken on a lot of additional hours on the fitness floor beyond her GVSU requirements, and with other employees leaving the department, will also be stepping up temporarily in a paid role to cover gaps before she leaves for grad school. Thanks, Meaghan!

Here are some of the upcoming events and groups at the Kroc Center:

  • TSA Advisory Board: Friday, 11am-1pm, Fireside C

Each week, members of the Kroc Center and Kroc Church submit a number of requests for prayer. We welcome these from everyone in our community, and encourage all our Kroc Krew to lift up these requests in your own way. Don’t forget that you are always welcome to attend devotions on Tuesday mornings at 9am in the Green Room; if you have a prayer request to share, you can post it on the board in the lobby, use the online form, or contact a member of the Kroc Church team.

  • None submitted this week

Be sure to wish a Happy Birthday to our Kroc Krew colleagues:

  • Emma Riley – April 13
  • Kristy Rencher – April 16
  • David La Verdiere – April 17
  • Odessa Burns – April 19
