First 5 – Week of April 22, 2024

EMPLOYEE REFERRAL PROGRAM: Now through the end of June, we are reinstating our employee referral bonus program — current Kroc Krew members can get $200 for referring someone new (assuming they are hired and work a minimum amount in their first 90 days). You must use the ADP portal to make the referral; please see Melissa Roemer if you have any questions.

GRPS SWIM LESSONS: Thanks to everyone who has been pitching in with GRPS swim lessons in our first week – it was a success despite a few curveballs! There will still be a lot of help needed both in the pool and in supervising kids in locker rooms as we continue these lessons through mid-May; please see James Valentine or Jessica Viau if you have any questions.

CYCLE-DELIC ZUMBA GLOW PARTY: Don your best 80’s and 90’s fashion and join us for an awesome glow party workout that is part cycle and part Zumba! This event is this Friday, April 26 from 6:00-7:30pm. It is free for members and day pass users, but space is limited, so encourage people to sign up in advance!

HOUSING FORUM: This Wednesday, April 24th at 6:30pm, the Garfield Park Neighborhoods Association will be presenting a forum here at the Kroc Center to share information with our community about how the City and local nonprofits are working to address the massive need for quality housing in Grand Rapids. Partners from Dwelling Place and Housing Next will be among the presenters. You can find more information in their Facebook event.

EXPUNGEMENT FAIR: On Saturday, May 4, the Kroc Center will once again host the “Project Clean Slate” expungement fair from 9am-4pm. This event is organized by the City of Grand Rapids. As happened last year, we anticipate a large volume of phone calls and other questions about registration and other details, as many people mistakenly believe we are in charge of it — please direct these questions to the City at 616-456-4OPA or the Clean Slate website.

OPEN POSITIONS: Visit the Central Territory’s ADP Recruitment system for all job postings and to submit applications online. We appreciate you sharing opportunities with friends and family! Current openings include: Fitness Lead (FT), Fitness Attendant, Lifeguard, Youth Ministry and Mission Specialist, Building Supervisor (PT), Welcome Desk Attendant, Child Watch Attendant, Summer Day Camp Counselor (FT), Summer Day Camp Counselor (PT).

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests!

  • We received a kind letter of thanks from the family who held a memorial service at the Kroc last weekend — they specifically recognized Pete, Shauntae, Jim, and Brent for their customer service.
  • The fitness team exhibited excellent service recovery with a family who did not understand the schedule for youth boxing.
  • As we scrambled to rearrange traffic patterns for GRPS swim lessons due to the men’s locker room becoming unavailable, RJ noticed at least three different employees step in and ask, “What can I do to help?” It was the type of teamwork that makes the Kroc great!

Here are some of the upcoming events and groups at the Kroc Center:

  • GPNA Housing Forum: Wednesday, 6-8pm, Fireside C
  • Friends of the Kroc Networking: Thursday, 11:30am-1:30pm, Fireside C
  • Memorial Service: Saturday, 11am-4pm, Fireside A/B/C

Each week, members of the Kroc Center and Kroc Church submit a number of requests for prayer. We welcome these from everyone in our community, and encourage all our Kroc Krew to lift up these requests in your own way. Don’t forget that you are always welcome to attend devotions on Tuesday mornings at 9am in the Green Room; if you have a prayer request to share, you can post it on the board in the lobby, use the online form, or contact a member of the Kroc Church team.

  • Healing and comfort for a number of staff and family members dealing with illness or loss.
  • Safety for travel for staff and family members.
  • Requests from Kroc Church…
    • Help with daughter & grandson; protect grandson; help me to be a good example; help me to forgive myself of past; a new job that enriches me.
    • Guidance & Strength for me as I am approaching a new year with my four beautiful daughters
    • For my family – that the hard times get better; my car situation gets better; pray for my entire family
    • Good health, find a new home for me and the kids so we can get out of the hotel.
    • Peace
    • I give thanks with all my heart.
    • A speedy & healthy recovery for Albert M.

Be sure to wish a Happy Birthday to our Kroc Krew colleagues:
