First 5 – Week of November 20, 2023

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE: As a reminder, the entire Kroc Center is CLOSED on Thursday, November 23 for Thanksgiving. We hope you enjoy this time with family and friends! The building is OPEN on a regular schedule Friday, November 24 and Saturday, November 25.

KROC KREW UPCOMING EVENTS: The Kroc Krew Christmas extravaganza will be held on Saturday, December 2. This year we will enjoy a meal, silent disco, games and photo booth! All staff are invited to bring a ‘plus one.’ Please RSVP at this link by November 30 so we can plan for food.

UPCOMING RATE INCREASES: For the first time since 2017, we will be increasing the cost of our standard adult membership, starting with the December 1 payment. The base monthly rate will increase from $40 to $45, prorated for members on the income-based sliding scale. The base senior (ages 65+) rate will increase from $30 to $32. This is still far less than the cost of the comparable memberships at nearby facilities like the GR YMCA. Please refer any questions to the membership department.

TODDLER TIME IS BACK!: Long-time Kroc Krew members may recall that we used to offer a special ‘Toddler Tuesday’ program with drop-in activities for our youngest guests. We are bringing it back starting with the Fall 2 session, only on Wednesday mornings this time. We’ll have special activities in the gymnasium, aquatics center, and classrooms for preschool-aged children and their caregivers. Please see the new Drop-In Recreation Guide for details.

DAY PASS SALES PROMOTION: For the first time since COVID, we will resume selling day pass punch cards at the Welcome Desk. These punch cards provide users with 12 day passes for the price of 10, a savings of up to $24. To promote the sale of day passes as Christmas gifts, we will also be running a special for people wanting to buy any form of advance day passes – buy 5 passes for future use, get a 6th free. These passes never expire; the promotion will start on Black Friday (Nov. 24) and run through Christmas Eve (Dec. 24). Punch cards will continue to be available beyond the promotion, though. Please see Lisa Van Dyk or Jon Shaner with any questions.

OPEN POSITIONS: Visit the Central Territory’s ADP Recruitment system for all job postings and to submit applications online. We appreciate you sharing opportunities with friends and family! Current openings include: Aquatics Lead; Lifeguard; Child Watch Attendant; Fitness Attendant; Music Instructor; Youth Ministry and Mission Specialist

Send an email to RJ Kroc if you see someone going above and beyond for our guests! Here are some examples observed recently:

  • Major Carol kicked off the first week of Toddler Time as the guest reader for story time, making parents and kids happy even though there was a bit of chaos.
  • A member expressed appreciation for a card that was sent out by Rachel and the fitness team.

Here are some of the upcoming events and groups at the Kroc Center:

  • UPrep Enrichment Classes: Tuesday, 9–10:15am; Gym, Art Room, Fireside, WPAC
  • FAME: Tuesday, 12-3pm; WPAC, Art Room, Fireside

Each week, members of the Kroc Center and Kroc Church submit a number of requests for prayer. We welcome these from everyone in our community, and encourage all our Kroc Krew to lift up these requests in your own way. Don’t forget that you are always welcome to attend devotions on Tuesday mornings at 9am (currently in the Music Room); if you have a prayer request to share, you can post it on the board in the lobby, use the online form, or contact a member of the Kroc Church team.

  • Reynaldo prays for his mother and release from financial struggles allowing her to live comfortably and give generously.
  • Shallah would have the dollars she needs to finish boxing
  • Octavia for housing for a family of 9
  • Terry for doors to open for senior housing he can afford with a fixed income.
  • Kroc Center open job positions to be filled

Be sure to wish a Happy Birthday to our Kroc Krew colleagues:

  • Michael Weller: 11/22
